S05E11 Smell
Episode Overview
Have you ever wondered how our sense of smell operates? Everyday items release minuscule particles into the atmosphere. When these particles enter your nostrils, they mix with the mucus present there. Some of these molecules interact with unique receptors located on the “olfactory membranes.” Each nostril is equipped with one of these membranes, which is roughly the size of a postage stamp. These membranes are packed with millions of receptor cells, each poised to relay information to the brain regarding the airborne molecules that have entered the nose.
