S05E08 Atoms & Molecules
Episode Overview
Atoms are incredibly tiny, so much so that they cannot be seen with the naked eye. It would take about 10 million atoms lined up to equal just one millimeter. These minuscule units are the fundamental components of matter; if you keep dividing a substance into smaller pieces, the smallest part that retains its identity is an atom. All matter is composed of a mere 109 types of atoms, known as elements. While 92 of these elements are found in nature, others like Technetium and Promethium exist only in stars, and Californium and Einsteinium are produced in labs. Molecules form when two or more atoms bond together.
