Episode Overview

Stanley Mitchell, a music journalist, forms a friendship with The Louis Lester Band as they journey from performing in a small basement jazz club to gracing the prestigious Imperial Hotel stage. Initially, the older crowd at the hotel reacts with hostility, unfamiliar with jazz and the presence of Black musicians. However, a group of young aristocrats appreciates the band’s sound and extends an invitation for them to perform at a garden party, giving the band an opportunity to shine in a new setting.
