S04E03 A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Pageant
Episode Overview
As the PR director for the Miss Teen Washington Pageant, Sandra encourages Mary to allow Brenda to participate. After some consideration, Mary agrees. However, the following day, the pageant head introduces a controversial new event: Bikini Aerobics, which Mary strongly opposes. When she confronts Justin, he reveals that dropping the segment would jeopardize the show's airing with the cable network. Backstage, Brenda and Mary discover that the other contestants find the event humiliating. United by their concerns, they decide to boycott, gaining support from host Bert Parks and Sandra, who feels wronged by Justin. As the bikini competition approaches, the cable representative and Justin tear up their contract, stating they didn’t want to see a senior citizen in a bikini. The teens then proceed with their alternative plan, showcasing their talents on stage instead.
