Capt. Mainwaring is in the hospital undergoing surgery for ingrowing toenails. In his absence, Wilson steps in as acting commanding officer and invites the vicar and the verger to bolster the platoon's ranks. This episode marks the first appearance without James Beck as Pte. Joe Walker, though his name still appears in the closing credits.
