S40E06 Doomsday Volcanoes
Episode Overview
In April 2010, the eruption of Iceland's Eyjafjallajökull volcano rendered much of Europe a no-fly zone, leaving millions of travelers stranded. But could Eyjafjallajökull be only the beginning? The ominous signs of Katla, another Icelandic volcano, show it is swelling and rumbling ominously. Additionally, two other formidable volcanoes, Hekla and Laki, pose a threat of sudden eruptions. Iceland stands on the brink of disaster, and when it erupts, the fallout could be felt worldwide. Utilizing CGI to explore these geological behemoths, atmospheric scientists strive to gauge the potential impact on air travel, global food supplies, and the Earth’s climate.
