In a strategic move to connect with the public, the White House selects Hilton as the perfect representation of the "average citizen" to have dinner with the president. After Hilton calls into a radio talk show, the president's deputy communications director hears him and reaches out with an invitation for Hilton and his family to join the president for dinner—on a night that clashes with Ruth's plans for a peaceful weekend getaway in the Poconos. As the Lucases prepare their home for the big night, the media descends upon them, while Pauline, Griffin, Singh, and New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani try to persuade Hilton to include them, claiming to be "extended family" deserving of a spot at the table.
