Father Dowling has a deep appreciation for fine art, but he discovers that a rogue art critic is taking things too far. A cunning thief is systematically pilfering valuable pieces that once belonged to the affluent Cabot family. Father Dowling suspects that Jonathan, the surviving son, may be behind the thefts. The puzzling aspect is why a wealthy businessman would resort to stealing artwork he could easily purchase. Additionally, Jonathan has rock-solid alibis for every incident.
