Episode Overview
Joseph Henry from the Smithsonian Institute tells Alexander Graham Bell that he has a brilliant idea worth refining when Bell shares his vision for the telephone. As Bell and Thomas Watson work on a multiple telegraph, Bell becomes convinced that human speech can be transmitted through wire by capturing its vibrations. However, when financier Mr. Hubbard dismisses Bell's ambitious idea, the duo secretly embarks on developing the telephone alongside the telegraph. Inspired by his deaf students, Bell struggles to balance his time between teaching and inventing. He learns that a student named David is giving up due to his speech challenges. Bell tries to encourage him at the train station, but David remains resolute in leaving. Disheartened by his inability to help, Bell finds motivation after a mime communicates with him in the park, reigniting his determination. With renewed energy, he and Watson successfully transmit sound through a tube. When Bell calls for Watson, their breakthrough is celebrated, and Bell is joyfully reunited with David, who has returned
