Lone Wolf and Cub (1973)
Overview
Ogami Itto, a highly skilled swordsman, serves in a prestigious role within the Tokugawa Shogunate, trusted by the Shogun himself as the official decapitator. He helps lords and samurai fulfill the Shogun's orders of seppuku. Tragedy strikes when a vengeful clan murders Itto’s wife and others in his household, retaliating for the execution of their lord, which Itto had carried out. In the aftermath, he discovers two remnants of that horrific day: his unharmed infant son, Daigoro, and a symbol that falsely brands him a traitor to the Shogun. Publicly disgraced, Itto loses his esteemed position and becomes a ronin, journeying across the land with Daigoro to hunt down his wife's killers, restore his honor, and seek vengeance.
