S01E12 Where There's a Will, There's a Waiver
Episode Overview
The Warners find their ongoing rivalry with their eccentric neighbor, Walt, intensifying when he insists Greg remove a tree he claims is hazardous. In an attempt to resolve the issue, Greg calls a town inspector, but this leads to a new dilemma when Jimmy reveals to the inspector that he and Christine are living in the Warners' guest house full-time, violating local zoning laws. The inspector mentions a waiver that would permit their stay, but it requires signatures from everyone on the block, including the unwilling Walt. Feeling guilty about the Hughes' potential hardship if they had to leave, Greg initially keeps this information to himself. Eventually, Jimmy persuades a hesitant Greg to help charm Walt into signing the waiver, a challenge given Walt's peculiar nature. However, Walt is not the true owner of his home and ultimately must consult someone else who holds the final say.
