Episode Overview

Lorenzo's uncle, the duke, initiates a contest to discover the best painter in Florence. Confident in his skills, Michelangelo mocks Leonardo, claiming he can't defeat him. To outsmart Michelangelo, Machiavelli persuades Lorenzo to trick him into painting the duke's least favorite subject: angels and cherubs. Meanwhile, Leonardo feels conflicted about participating in the deceit. In a bold move, he erases the smile from his teenage rendition of La Gioconda, which features Lisa as his model, ultimately enabling her, disguised as 'Tomaszo,' to triumph in the competition.
