S05E29 Fallout 9/11 Ten Years On
Episode Overview
The collapse of the twin towers transformed into a symbol of terror, claiming nearly three thousand lives. Yet, a decade later, the repercussions of that day persist. The debris that blanketed Lower Manhattan turned into a silent menace, releasing harmful particles of crushed concrete, asbestos, lead from thousands of computers, and mercury from countless bulbs—over a million tons of toxic remnants. Almost 20,000 individuals are now undergoing treatment for various serious health conditions, with more than 60,000 identified as being at risk. The BBC Our World team initially reported on this issue in 2006 and returns five years later to delve deeper into this ongoing tragedy and reconnect with those who shared their experiences.
