As Alex works on a resume for young Andrew in anticipation of upcoming kindergarten elections, Elyse excitedly shares the news that Andy has been selected as "Buddy for the Day" at school, tasked with helping a new student acclimate. The newcomer, Josh Richards, is deaf, and his mother accompanies him to meet Andy, introduced by the teacher who explains that Josh communicates through sign language. Initially hesitant, Andy takes Josh under his wing, guiding him through the class and explaining to his intrigued peers about Josh's deafness and his skill in signing.
