Concerned about the potential consequences of Andy's progressive upbringing and its absence of clear gender roles, Alex attempts to encourage his younger brother to take up basketball. This leads to some intense one-on-one matches with Steven. At the same time, Nick, hoping to boost his earnings from his teaching position at the “Y,” unwittingly applies for the Dean of Admissions role at Grant College but faces rejection. With Mallory's encouragement, he reluctantly accepts a job as a janitor at her sorority house instead.
