Tensions rise between sisters when Jennifer chooses to date Josh Wakefield, the younger brother of Mallory's high school crush. Meanwhile, the Keatons encourage Steven to find a calming pastime, while Jennifer anxiously awaits Josh's arrival to collaborate on a French Club project. Upon discovering that Josh is the sibling of her ex, Jeff Wakefield, Mallory grows overly protective. She warns Jennifer about Jeff's betrayal when he left for college, fearing that Josh might repeat the same heartbreak.
