Episode Overview

Single mother Denise Johnson is discovered deceased in a remote location near Phoenix, Arizona. In their investigation, local authorities enlist a molecular geneticist to identify a tree from a selection after unidentified seed pods are discovered in the vehicle of suspect Mark Bogan. The judge permits the introduction of DNA profiles that connect the seed pods to a tree close to the site where Denise's body was located. This marks the first instance in the U.S. where plant DNA has been utilized to secure a criminal conviction.
