We can empathize with the anger experienced by victims of crime and their loved ones. However, research indicates that capital punishment does not effectively deter crime. Additionally, DNA testing has cleared 122 individuals previously sentenced to death. If we are executing prisoners to appease a basic emotional response, while still facing uncertainties about their guilt, and if we have more affordable means to ensure lifelong incarceration, then why does our government continue to endorse the outdated, barbaric, and expensive practice known as the Death Penalty?
