Episode Overview
The second group of contestants on the Amazing Race embarks on the initial leg of their global adventure, heading to Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. There, teams tackle the challenge of rappelling down a towering 590-foot mountain, while others search for the inspiration behind the iconic song "The Girl from Ipanema." Tensions flare between two teams when Tara and Wil assert they arrived at the hotel for reservations before the others. A confrontation ensues between Blake and Wil, with Wil boasting about his travel expertise. Meanwhile, older contestants Peggy and Claire fear elimination, but in a surprising turn of events, they reach the pit stop just ahead of the mother-daughter duo, Deidre and Hillary. Tara and Wil claim first place, and despite their elimination, they feel the race has strengthened their bond, especially after Hillary's long struggle with independence.
