In 1933, Adolf Hitler holds the position of chancellor in Germany, yet he lacks total control as the democratic parliament, head of state, and legal framework still exist. Seeking to bolster Nazi influence, Hitler organizes a general election. However, a fire at the Reichstag is attributed to communists, leading to mass arrests of leftist individuals. In response, Hitler urges President von Hindenburg to intervene, resulting in a decree that grants the Nazis emergency powers, effectively curtailing free speech and the ability to protest.
