Overview
Premiering on June 11, 2009, on MTV, 16 and Pregnant provides an unfiltered glimpse into the lives of high school girls facing the challenges of teenage pregnancy. Each episode focuses on a different girl, starting from the 4.5 to 8-month mark of her pregnancy and concluding a few months after childbirth. The documentary-style format incorporates animated highlights on notebook paper during commercial breaks. The show's impact led to several spin-offs, including Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2, and Teen Mom 3, which explore the journeys of these young mothers as they adapt to parenthood. Casting for the fifth season began in July 2013.
