Fred's former vaudeville partner, Barney Kurtz, makes a surprise appearance, prompting Fred to claim he's a wealthy real-estate mogul, complete with a red-haired maid to back him up. In reality, Barney is just a cook living in the Bronx. However, with his grandson set to visit, Barney is determined to put on a good front and keep the charade going.
