Despite promoting it on the radio, Chris feels hesitant about contributing to Maurice's blood drive. Meanwhile, Ed learns that his uncommon blood type is also found in another resident, prompting him to enlist private investigator Renaldo Pinetree to uncover her history and see if she could be his mother. In Cicely, Maggie's former "tiller mate" from Grosse Pointe arrives, attempting to rekindle her interest while tempting Joel to leave town for good. As the blood drive inches closer to the goal Maurice needs to settle his bet with a rival town, Joel struggles to maintain his blood-drawing skills.
