In 1996, officers in Virginia Beach responded to a call at the Makdessi residence, discovering the bodies of Elise Makdessi and her partner, Quincy Brown. Elise's husband, Eddie, claimed he acted in self-defense, asserting that he killed Quincy after he had murdered Elise. Alongside his statement, Eddie handed over a videotape recorded by Elise just a week prior, in which she accused a Navy member of sexual harassment and assault. As the investigation unfolded, authorities uncovered evidence suggesting her claims might have been part of a calculated scheme for financial gain, prompting them to rely on forensic science to uncover the truth.
