Episode Overview

At Oxford's Foreign Examination Syndicate, a scandal brews as someone leaks vital exam secrets. Nicholas Quinn, a board member who is deaf, accidentally overhears incriminating information and is later discovered dead at his cottage, poisoned with cyanide. Shortly after, crossword compiler Philip Ogleby is brutally murdered, his skull fractured. As Inspector Morse delves into the case, he finds himself drawn to Monica Height, an employee of the Syndicate. She may be entangled in the corruption that led to both Quinn's and Ogleby's untimely deaths.
