Ash has finally arrived in Fennel Valley, eager to take on Brandon in an official match, but learns that Brandon won't return until the next day. Instead, he meets an excited Nurse Joy who is passionate about Pokémon battles and Contests. She offers to assist Ash with his training, but her Chansey, while adorable, becomes a fierce opponent once its nurse's hat is removed. Chansey effortlessly defeats Ash's Corphish, imparting a valuable lesson on battle strategy that leaves Ash feeling frustrated.
