Episode Overview

In Darlington, concern grows for 12-year-old Joshua, who has fled home following a heated argument with his mother and has seemingly vanished. With a penchant for retreating into a superhero fantasy world, Joshua's learning challenges and innocent nature render him particularly at risk. As minutes stretch into hours and night descends, anxiety escalates. Inspector Sarah Honeyman and her team are tasked with locating him. Meanwhile, in a rural County Durham town, panic erupts when 13-year-old Katie goes missing, leaving a suicide note behind. Every available officer is deployed to search for her, and a search dog along with its handler from the local Mountain Rescue team is called in. However, budget cuts have left police helicopters stretched thin, and with the nearest one occupied on another mission, the wait for crucial aerial assistance is agonizing. PC Matt Gunby, assigned to stay with the family, understands the gravity of the situation.
