Charlotte gets a letter from a solicitor revealing that she is set to inherit Mountfast's fortune. Meanwhile, Bradley learns from a future Tory MP that his claim to the earldom is off the table, prompting him to switch sides. Isobel is troubled by the news of the Mountfast inheritance and fears Jack will pop the question to Charlotte, which he ultimately does. However, Charlotte firmly rejects his proposal, telling him to take a hike.
