Surviving the Cut (2010)
S01E02 Air Force Pararescue
Episode Overview
Air Force Pararescuemen are the elite specialists in combat search and rescue within US Special Operations. When a pilot is downed behind enemy lines, these dedicated professionals will go to great lengths to bring him back home. Often referred to as "PJs," they are also highly trained combat medics. Becoming a PJ requires over two years of rigorous training. Early in the process, candidates face a grueling challenge known as "Extended Training Day," designed to eliminate those who can't handle the intense demands of the role. This excruciating 24-hour test is unparalleled in any special operations training, and ultimately, only nine out of 100 candidates make the cut to continue their journey as a PJ.
