Harm uncovers potential evidence suggesting that his father, who has been missing in action since the Vietnam War, might still be alive and held captive by the KGB in Russia. While investigating the murder of a Navy pilot found concealed on the retired USS Hornet, Harm and Mac collaborate with a local police lieutenant. They stumble upon a motive linked to a list of MIAs and POWs believed to be alive and under KGB control, which shockingly includes Harm's father. However, just as Harm is about to pursue this lead, the crucial book vanishes along with the police lieutenant who aided them.
