The Cannons take in a wounded family member, only to find themselves betrayed when he makes off with the ranch's payroll. Uncle Dan Brookes unexpectedly shows up after being away for 15 years, looking for refuge at their well-protected ranch. He keeps secret that he is being hunted for murder and has already been shot by bounty hunters Mace and Gurney. When Buck brings the bounty hunters on as ranch workers, Brookes crafts a plan to save himself by offering to assist them in stealing the Cannons' money.
