After Robert Colson, a well-known lawyer, has the murder charges against him for his ex-girlfriend's death dropped at a preliminary hearing, detectives and patrol officers intensify their efforts to coerce his brother and family members into turning against him. Andrea becomes deeply involved in the case, keeping David's name in the headlines, which creates tension with her mother. Meanwhile, Joel, who is personally invested in the investigation, takes a dangerous step to gather legitimate evidence that will solidify the case, opposing Ray's unethical decision to plant evidence against Colson's sister-in-law for leverage.
