As the 1960s drew to a close, Eva Hesse, a 34-year-old German-born artist, was on the brink of a flourishing career. Recognized as one of the few women in the vibrant New York art scene, she had more than 20 group exhibitions lined up for 1970 and was featured on the cover of ArtForum Magazine. Her innovative sculptures were finally garnering the acclaim they deserved. Tragically, Hesse's life was cut short by a brain tumor in May 1970. The documentary American Masters explores her remarkable journey, highlighting her groundbreaking work with fiberglass and latex, and offers insights into the creative circles of 1960s New York and Germany through numerous interviews and newly uncovered archival material.
