Extreme Fishing With Robson Green (2008)

S04E03 Papua New Guinea

May 26, 2011 Season 4 Episode 3 Documentary

Episode Overview

After a long journey involving three flights over five days, Robson Green arrives in Papua New Guinea, a vibrant, volcanic island teeming with diverse tribes that communicate in over 800 languages. The island is also renowned for the Papuan black bass, often hailed as the ultimate catch among freshwater fighting fish. In Kimbe, the capital of West New Britain, Robson teams up with hunter Riccard Reimann to explore the jungle rivers where these fiercely territorial bass reside. Their first catch proves to be a formidable challenge, prompting a volunteer to plunge into the crocodile-infested waters to help bring it to the surface. Away from fishing, Robson searches for megapode eggs near the imposing Mt Tavurvur. These tropical turkeys bury their eggs in a mix of sand and decaying compost, and the prized eggs serve as an ideal gift for his next hosts, local fishermen who rely on hand lines to fish in depths exceeding 500 feet. It’s tough work, but a delicious meal
