Gamache is back in Three Pines to look into the vanishing of beloved local Marc Fortier. However, the situation quickly escalates into a murder investigation, pulling Gamache and his team deep into the village's troubling history surrounding St. Anthony’s. At the same time, Lacoste uncovers a crucial piece of evidence regarding Blue's disappearance that has been fabricated. Spurred on by Gamache, she decides to discreetly revisit the case.
