Episode Overview

Kevin McCloud visits Michelle Parsons, an artist and educator who, after overcoming a serious illness, has taken the plunge to create her own secluded retreat in the woods of Essex. Alongside her architect husband, David, Michelle envisions a modern, three-bedroom home wrapped in black, featuring an art studio. However, heavy rain and the threat of a dangerous gas leak halt construction. As the project unfolds, Kevin begins to question if the couple's choice to forgo windows on two sides might result in a dark and dreary living space.
