After waking up with a pounding headache but resolved to remain at Home Farm, Charley—known to the family as ‘Charley’—chooses to join the Larkins on a strawberry-picking trip. There, he attracts the attention of the local seductress, Pauline Jackson, who competes with Mariette for his affection. Ultimately, Mariette comes out on top, and the two decide to tie the knot, with Pop giving his approval.
