Diggin' in the Carts (2014)
S01E04 The Cool Kid
Episode Overview
As the '90s kicked off, video game sales surged globally, igniting a fierce rivalry between the industry's two giants: Nintendo and Sega. While Sega had established dominance in arcades during the '80s, Nintendo ruled the home console market. However, this dynamic began to shift with the emergence of Sega’s Megadrive, which garnered a reputation for its cooler games. The Megadrive’s distinctive FM Synth sound contributed to some of the most remarkable video game music of the time, featuring J-Pop icon Masato Nakamura composing the Sonic The Hedgehog soundtracks and Yuzo Koshiro infusing the vibe of Tokyo nightlife into the iconic Streets of Rage soundtrack.
