Joe Hagen relocates to Sleepy Eye to lend a hand at the school for the blind. As he grows closer to Hester Sue, he finds himself developing feelings for her. Yet, Hester Sue has intentions to wed a man with greater prospects. One day, she overhears Joe offering kind words to a blind student, which stirs something within her. This moment ultimately leads Hester Sue to reconsider her engagement to the other suitor.
