After Joe is shot and killed, Kelly is taken into custody for one night until the shooting is deemed justifiable. The authorities consider charging her for having an unlicensed gun, but Matt persuades them to show some compassion. David decides it’s time for Dylan to find a new place, leading Dylan to check into a hotel, where Gina eventually joins him after Donna kicks her out for discussing Kelly with the press. Wayne's carefree demeanor frustrates Donna, especially his lack of empathy for Kelly, prompting her to realize they aren't meant to be. Meanwhile, Noah neglects Donna and begins a fling with an employee. Janet's unpredictable actions leave Steve puzzled as she secretly applies for a job at another newspaper and expresses doubts about their relationship, ultimately revealing to Kelly that she is four months pregnant.
