In an attempt to assist, Gina asks Dylan for $15,000, keeping the recipient a secret. However, Matt declines the offer and resorts to pawning Kelly's ring. Following this, he faces a 30-day suspension from practicing law, putting his firm at risk of bankruptcy. Meanwhile, Dylan becomes distant with Kelly and loses interest in his godparent role. A resentful Gina criticizes the concept of godparenting, recalling how Dr. Martin was her godfather out of guilt. Eventually, she encourages Dylan to take on the role positively for Madeline.
