Episode Overview
Carl decides to end his marriage with Abby, convinced he has a future with Valerie. Meanwhile, Valerie opens up to her mother about her night with Carl and admits to killing her father. Although she claims it was self-defense, Abby is determined to report her. At a newsstand, Kelly spots an attractive man at a nearby table and learns that a boutique space is available for lease. She envisions opening the shop with Donna and meets attorney Matt Durning, the man she noticed earlier. That night, Noah struggles to deliver his father's eulogy and ends up getting arrested for DUI. Kelly recommends Matt to represent him, leading to a fine, probation, and mandatory alcohol counseling. Kelly discovers that Matt is working on a custody case for a domestic abuser whose wife she had previously assisted at the clinic. Matt argues that everyone deserves representation, but Kelly dismisses him. Meanwhile, Steve offers Sophie a writing column for the Beat.
