Episode Overview
The murder of a woman leads investigators to uncover that the real target was a journalist who reported on misconduct in a recent senatorial election. Carmichael struggles to persuade the reporter to disclose her sources despite the imminent danger to her life. Without this information, McCoy and Carmichael face significant challenges in building a case against a Senator they suspect is linked to the mob and responsible for the hit on the reporter. The situation becomes more complicated with 2,000 missing ballots believed to have been stolen by mobsters. A courtroom showdown ensues over whether these ballots can be counted, which McCoy thinks will reveal the Senator's motive for the murder. However, an appellate court rules against them, leaving their case in jeopardy. Ultimately, McCoy manages to convince the reporter to disclose her source, leading to crucial testimony against the Senator.
