Episode Overview
Gordon heads back to La Parra in Spain to check on ex-nightclub manager Laurence and see if he’s made any progress since their last encounter. A year ago, Laurence, then 26, was trying to run the restaurant in Nerja with a loan from his father, despite lacking culinary experience. He was determined to do better than serving just chips, offering a menu of 72 dishes, including his bizarre signature of prawns in garlic with chocolate sauce. With his friend Alex managing the front and sous chef Norman grilling a mix of kebabs and steaks, the dining experience was chaotic, marred by raw food and overbooked tables. After losing £22,000 in a year, Laurence resisted Gordon’s suggestions for a simplified menu. Fast forward a year, and while they’ve made it through winter, Laurence is now ambitiously eyeing a second location, despite still serving charred desserts and candy wine gums.
