Chiaki and the orchestra welcome a new concertmaster, Miki Kiyora, who handpicks top-tier student musicians from across Japan to form an elite ensemble. Meanwhile, Nodame is assigned to a different instructor, and the change takes a strange toll on her—she slips into a lifeless, zombie-like state, barely responsive to the music around her.
