Katerina convinces Melanie to throw a party to boost her social status. Melanie, who has feelings for Ryan, is hopeful that the event will bring them closer together. She splurges on her credit cards, and at first, it seems worthwhile. However, when her father's video camera breaks and she can't afford repairs, she realizes she's overspent. Her disappointment deepens when Ryan tries to return the expensive gold pendant she gifted him, leading her to understand that friendship can't be bought.
