Maxine finds herself at odds with the other mothers in Lauren's carpool, stirring up tension. Meanwhile, Amy worries her parenting abilities will be scrutinized when a family-relations officer comes to her house as part of Michael's custody battle. Kyle and Lily work together to track down a man Lily mistakenly discharged from the hospital. Maxine is also concerned that Sean's relationship with his new foster mother crosses a line. In probate court, Amy must decide whether a mother can have her son declared legally dead, despite the father's belief that the boy, missing for four years, is still alive.
