Stu manages to persuade a hesitant Amy to join him for an overnight camping adventure, which surprisingly deepens their bond. Meanwhile, Maxine is heartbroken after planning a secret wedding with Jared for the weekend, only to learn of his sudden and fatal heart attack in China. Overwhelmed by grief, she lashes out at those around her, including a troubled teenage client. The atmosphere in the Gray household becomes tense as Maxine pushes away anyone trying to comfort her, while Peter and Charles argue about funeral arrangements as a way to cope with their loss. Maxine ultimately brings friends and family together at the diner for a heartfelt memorial service.
