To rescue Stefan's soul, Damon strikes a bargain with Cade to obtain the Maxwell journal. However, Alaric and Matt are unwilling to relinquish it, believing it could hold the secret to defeating Cade. Meanwhile, Caroline is determined to reach out to Stefan before Cade can execute his scheme.
