Christine embarks on a journey to Germany as part of a prisoner swap. Meanwhile, Helen receives instructions from prison governor Margaret to keep an eye on their German inmate, Gertrude Verna. Known as Gertie, she is infamous for the gruesome crime of murdering and consuming her husband, and has gained celebrity status through her numerous published books.
